The Front of our Building
Welcome back to another installment of Tavern History Tuesday! Today, we are delighted to shine a spotlight on a significant aspect of our restoration project: the front facade of our historic building. In the first photograph, you will see the Tavern in its original state before the restoration commenced, followed by a second photo showcasing its current revitalized appearance. A great deal has transformed, so let's explore each element in detail.
To begin, our new sign was masterfully crafted by the talented Jim Thomas, adding a charming touch to our entrance. Next, we had the elegant railings custom-made by Coastal Iron Works, enhancing both safety and aesthetics. The windows, an integral feature of our building, were meticulously restored by the experts at Old House Authority.
An especially noteworthy aspect of our restoration is the use of bricks. Every brick in the facade has a rich history, with many salvaged from our site or sourced from the historic Indian Banks in Farnham, Virginia. These bricks are over 300 years old, adding an authentic sense of antiquity to the structure. The soldier course of bricks, a more recent addition to ensure stability over time, was generously donated by Oakalona in Hustle, Virginia. Each element of our front facade is a piece of custom craftsmanship, reflecting the dedication and expertise of all involved.
That concludes this week's Tavern History Tuesday. We hope you enjoyed this in-depth look at the changes and improvements made during our beloved Tavern's renovation. We invite you to visit and experience the charm and history of this wonderful place for yourself. Until next time!
